It is for apes, and every animal in the wild. And I am left wondering why a 100% raw diet is not sufficient in calories. Garlic is a toxic irritant that has no place in a healthful diet. Makes good sense, though I am disappointed that it includes garlic powder in some recipes. This book is concise and to the point, a quick and easy read. It does not require much self discipline, once the appetites have been rebooted. For most people, this is the optimal diet because it is both healthful and satisfying. No one ever got fat on this kind of food! And no one ever went hungry either. It is about eating well, and some of these recipes do look tasty! It offers no quick fixes, only a workable plan for a lifetime of healthful eating based on sound science. This is not a book about self-denial or eating less. The standard American diet is too low in fiber and too high in animal fats. It criticizes most vegan diets as being too grain-based, and 100% raw diets as being too low in calories. It dismisses USDA “food pyramids” as commercially-motivated propaganda. It debunks the Atkins Diet and the Sears Diet, and explains why they are problematic. Deficiencies are not a concern, with the “possible exception” of Vitamins D and B-12. It offers a few simple recipes and advice on feeding babies and children. This book recommends a fruitarian-vegetarian diet, mostly raw, plus potatoes, beans, and whole grains.

Ty's lived with Rick since he lost his parents in a car accident. She even calls him Daddy, but recently things have started to change, and that name has started to have a whole different feel to it. Here, all it seemed to be about was a Dad and his son wanting to get their rocks off with pretty much the only option available and lucky for them she was young, hot and willing.ĭo not get me wrong, it was hot and smutty, but just not, for me, what I read AR for.Īnd tbh, I found myself cringing a bit, as opposed to actually enjoying it.įelt to much like the “heroine” was being used, as opposed to loved. In this one, that “cannot live without you” factor, for me was missing. Well, despite the fact AR books are usually over the top insta love, ott possessive alpha etc I still enjoy them, as the hero is so over the top and falls for the heroine and cannot live without her. The vision of Arcadia is a world removed from outside influences, but as such utopian experiments are wont to do, it eventually descends into complete chaos. Its inhabitants call themselves the “Free People,” and led by the charismatic but deeply flawed Handy, they dutifully recite mantras of yoga, organic produce, and equality. Groff’s portrayal of Arcadia borders more on a cult than a happy-go-lucky land of hippies. Through beautiful language that grounds the story in its natural landscape along with its focus on personal relationships, “Arcadia” forms a haunting and hopeful vision of love lost and gained. Bit, who is as meek and passive as his name suggests, observes his strange world first through the eyes of a child and then, as the novel progresses, through the jaded and wounded perspective of a man in an increasingly confounding world. “We were like guests at the Mad Hatter’s table,” reflects one character in “Arcadia,” “but didn’t even know the world was flipped around.” In her second novel, author Lauren Groff traces the backwards and unusual life of Bit Stone, the child of hippies who help found the commune Arcadia in rural New York in the 1960s. “The short sentences of the text flow with the precision one would expect from a master picture-book creator like Henkes. Hiaasen occasionally shifts point of view to previously unknown characters who hardly if ever reappear in order to show a different perspective on what happens to the more central characters, like the Montana locals who discover the body of Jerry Killian - a device that adds to the depth and charm of the story. Some are over the top, like the Congressman and Darrell Grant, but most are engaging and funny. One big difference is the vast array of characters in the book, typical of Hiaasen - his plots are far less important than his characters. But don't let any of that deter you - as bad as the movie was (it was the big winner of the 1996 Raspberry Awards for worst movie), the novel is that good. You probably never associated it with Carl Hiaasen's Florida-based comic crime capers, but yes, it was adapted from his novel of the same name - one of the few of his many books that have made it onto the big screen, a head scratcher since they seem natural material for film. Jennifer Haigh is an American novelist and short story writer. My honest thoughts on her was that she was okay. (Life, please don't prove me wrong) This fact, along with her flat personality, made it really hard to connect with Dusty. There is no way that much stuff could go wrong in reality. I think it may have been more suited to people a little younger.ĭusty is so clumsy it is ridiculous. Sometimes Dusty was fairly humourous, but the jokes were pretty lame more often than not or I missed the reference/tag line completely. Lots of info dumping and a complete lack of imagery, which was my biggest issue. There was nothing special about this writing. I don't think I'll be continuing the series. None of the major climatic events were that exciting either. Predictability was a big problem, as was the fact that the twists literally came from nowhere, there was no set up whatsoever. The mythology was good! What little there was. I was disappointed with The Nightmare Affair. Especially one as dark and mysterious as a serial killer. I don't often read crime books, but I don't mind having a mystery as a side plot. That unfamiliar mythology and the fact that Nightmares reminded me of maras from Rachel Vincent's Soul Screamers series pretty much guaranteed I was going to give this book a chance. Beings that feed off people's dreams definitely fit in that category. I love the weird and whacky supernatural creatures we don't get to see often.
